Academician Dr. Glenn B. Gregorio, Ph.D.

Dr. Glenn B. Gregorio is one of the Philippines’ leading agricultural scientists and a respected international expert in rice genetics and breeding and is listed in the Top 2% of the world’s scientists in the Stanford-Elsevier List. He served as Center Director of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture, or SEAMEO SEARCA, and is an Academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines. His scientific work focuses on developing rice varieties that can withstand salinity and other environmental stresses -- an urgent contribution for farmers facing climate change, coastal intrusion, and declining soil quality. His research led to the development of early salt-tolerant rice varieties in the Philippines and contributed to rice improvement efforts in Asia and Africa. Before SEARCA, he worked for nearly three decades at the International Rice Research Institute and helped develop more than 15 rice varieties.

He was also a Professor at the University of the Philippines at Los Banos. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of the Philippines Los Banos. Dr. Gregorio has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus for Rice Genetics and Breeding, one of the Filipino Faces of Biotechnology, and a United Nations Food Systems Summit champion. As a National Executive Council member, he represents science that directly improves food security, farmer livelihoods, and climate resilience.
