Search is On for Sci&Tech Philippines Awards 2026
The Sci&Tech Philippines has launched its National Sci&Tech Philippines Awards 2026, a landmark national recognition program for outstanding young Filipino students and educators in STEM, during a two-day event held in Tuguegarao City last March 16, 2026 in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. The official launch took place at the Cagayan Provincial Capitol Commissary, marking the beginning of what is envisioned to be the country’s premier platform celebrating excellence, leadership, and innovation in science and technology among senior high school students and teachers.
The event was graced by no less than DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr. who believed that the future of this country rests with the youth. Supporting the Awards are DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Sancho A. Mabborang and Cagayan Governor Edgar Aglipay. Also present were DOST Regional Director for Region II, Dr. Virginia Bilgera and DOST Regional Director for Region III, Dr. Julius Cesar Sicat, underscoring strong interregional support for the initiative.
The Sci&Tech recognition program aims to recognize exceptional individuals through three major categories: The Outstanding Sci&Tech Students of the Philippines (TOSS), Science and Technology Awards for Research Excellence (STARE), and the National Sci&Tech Honor Society. The program seeks to cultivate a culture of innovation and inspire the next generation of Filipino scientists, researchers, and nation-builders. Cagayan Youth Meets with Sci&Tech PH Mentors
On March 17, 2026, some 132 senior high school students from 12 senior high schools across the Province of Cagayan gathered at Cagayan State University gymnasium for the STEM Mentoring Program, an initiative of Sci&Tech Philippines. The event transformed the venue into a hub of learning and inspiration, connecting students with leading scientists, educators, and thought leaders. Designed to ignite curiosity and deepen scientific understanding, the program featured interactive sessions such as Sci&Tech Talks, meet-and-greet opportunities, and an open forum.
Among the distinguished speaker was National Scientist Dr. Lourdes Cruz, Sci&Tech PH Advisory Board member who delivered a powerful message emphasizing responsibility in the pursuit of science. Her call to action highlighted that scientific endeavors must ultimately serve society and future generations. Tuguegarao Career Scientist, Dr. Evelyn Ame provided insights to some of her exciting work on aquaculture while Dr. Francisco Magno (Sci&Tech PH Director) engaged the youth into interesting works of a political scientist. Dr. Culaba (Sci&Tech PH President) shared his micro-hydro energy project that showed application of technology to providing electricity to more than 350 people in the mountains of Sierra Madre. The event was facilitated by Ms. Creselda ‘Dada’ Doble, Sci&Tech PH secretary.
A highlight of the program was the open forum, where students actively engaged with the speakers — asking questions, sharing ideas, and gaining confidence to pursue careers in STEM. The March 16 and 17 events underscored Sci&Tech’s commitment to develop the youth as future scientists, innovators and leaders. By bringing together leaders, educators, and young learners, the initiative reinforces a shared vision: “A future where Filipino talent in science and technology drives national development and competitiveness. Sci&Tech PH expressed appreciation to the support of the Department of Science and Technology Regional Operations and Region II.
